Dear Deirdre,
Heres the ques. I still didnt understand about hair covering, if our hair is our veil then why must it be covered? Yes I know when praying you should use a veil on your head, but when not in prayer and going out to the store running errands. I generally keep my hair in a ponytail or loose bun, because like you said , its frustrating if your cooking cleaning etc and hair falls all over. Even if I am out shopping I hate it when my hair falls in my face, having constantly to brush it back---so the elastic comes in handy. I watched the videos that you posted but didnt understand it completely----can you explain better?
This is a great question! I too for many years thought my hair was the covering and all that was needed. Our hair is 'a' covering. It is also 'a' glory.
As we notice in many different cultures, there are 'certain parts' of a womans body that people deem more attractive or sensual. (For instance in America, not many care about necks. But in other cultures, necks are very sensual.)
1 Corinthians 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
According to the LORD's Words, this is a glory.
1 Corinthians 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
In our walk with the LORD we represent different aspects of Who He Is. The woman represents the church, the bride. She is hidden in Him (covered by Him). Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
The man represents Christ, the head. It is the head that leads. The body follows. When we cover our heads, we are showing the world a physical representation of an amazing spiritual truth! 'The head (Christ) governs the body (church). The body is surrendered to the head (the leadership of Christ).
Let me try and show you this. Women used to be mysterious. That was part of their attractiveness. And it was the great challange of man to 'find out' about a woman. She had many hidden things about her. Now aday's it's all out there. Nothing to hide, no mystery, no discovery!
Say a husband is very proud of the way his wife looks. He likes her to wear tight jeans and show a little cleavage. He wants to show off 'his glory' to the world. But the very things that entice him, will entice other men causing many abominations to arise (jealousy, pride, coveting.)
The woman represents the church. She is hidden in Christ. If someone wants to know about the church and Christ, they must 'search out', discover who/what she is and Who He Is!
In another example; your hair maybe liken to your private parts-these are to be hidden and only exposed to the one you are in covenant marriage with. Your hair represents that covenant you have with your head, your husband. Or if you are single, it can represent your head-which could be your father or brother. The man in whom you are under his protection (like Ester under her uncle Mordecai.) What if a woman has no head (man)? She is ultimately under her head-Jesus Christ. As a female, she is still representing that aspect of the church.
When we really think about it ladies, we should be honored that the LORD created us woman and to represent the church in this symbolic way. It is like the special badge or reward of a soldier, setting him apart from all the rest!
We don't wear the head covering in a prideful way, we wear it in a peaceful way, understanding that YAHWEYS ways are always right and all HIS details speak forth HIS truths and HIS great love for us and for all who would come to HIM.
I hope this helps! I invite any other woman to discuss, share or ask any other questions.
Peace,
Deirdre

This article helped answer questions and pretty much eliminated all excuses I had as to why the headcovering didnt "apply" to me. Praise and glory to a patient and merciful Lord! Thank you, Deirdre, for bringing this topic back to the forefront of my thoughts. http://eliyah.com/talmidim/headcovering.html
ReplyDeleteYAHWEY bless you Prairiemae. I am nothing. I mean that. Today as I have reflected on my life, I can see so much of what I could have done for the LORD, but have been selfish, self centered and fearful. You are right though, YAHWEY's patience is so amazing. If only I could be as patient with my own children as HE has been with me! It seems like in this world presently the only thing left to do is just love people. HE will take care and deal with each of us.
ReplyDeleteI pray HE comes quickly!
Peace,
Deirdre
Prairiemae, thank you for that resource!
ReplyDeleteI really like what Claire Andoun says, "Please my sister, do not argue with the Word of GOD". And this we all do at some time or another regarding anything in the Scriptures.
